Question
I have a three-year-old mare that is very picky about what you feed especially hay – what is a good thing to feed her?

Answer
The two most important things to your horse’s health are fresh air and fresh water. Not enough fresh water can cause a horse to be picky about food. If she doesn’t drink enough water be sure she is getting enough salt and minerals. We use a salt and mineral mix added free choice to the feed box. I would also recommend that you have your vet check your horse to be sure she doesn’t have teeth problems and to check the quality of the hay that you are feeding. If she looks good and her coat is slick, she might be an easy keeper.
